On Friday, July 20th, 2012 Smithers RCMP responded to a 911 call in which a young child ran out onto the highway 16 in front of traffic at the intersection of Maddison Ave, and Highway 16 in Telkwa, BC.
The young child was struck by a vehicle and sustained head and pelvic injuries. Emergency Health Services was on scene and transported him to the Smithers Hospital. The young child was transferred to the Vancouver Hospital and is expected to make a full recovery.
Police are reminding parents the importance of ensuring their children understand the dangers of entering onto any roadway with moving traffic.
