Terrace’s North Coast Nightmares Roller Derby Team are gearing up to train hard with Team Canada player, Bone Machine from Montreal. On Wednesday, August 8th at the Terrace Hidber Arena Terrace’s own World Cup player is coming back to host a boot camp for local derby girls and other skaters from the region. Roller Derby is predominantly a female sport where two teams of five girls on roller skates battle for points on the track with the aggression of hockey minus the padding. The Nightmares’ Derby Team are in need of players, coaches, officials, fans and volunteers.
The North Coast Nightmares strive to create a skating community that centres on loyalty, friendship, personal growth, health and fitness. In the league, there are players from all walks of life and they have players ranging in age from 19-50 years young. All ages (19+), and all skill levels are always welcome! The Nightmares are a group of dedicated women, with a common passion, roller derby, supporting each other every step of the way, with one on one coaching to help bring players to the next level. This Terrace team has come a long way, and will continue to move forward, hoping to eventually help other leagues in the area form.
August 8th is a training night for skaters, but information will be available for those wanting to learn more, join the team, become officials or volunteer. All surrounding areas are invited and this will be a great learning experience for fans and anyone looking to get involved. You must be 19 or older to join the team but The Nightmares are hoping to engage fans, so come out and watch. Insured Derby players are invited to join the Nightmares to train for a $5 drop-in fee, and skating starts at 5:30pm. All spectators are invited to watch from 6:30- 8:30pm.
