A local resident has donated the use of her bus to gather elders, chiefs and matriarchs to travel to the Defend Our Coast Rally in Victoria on Monday, October 22, 2012. They are leaving Saturday morning and will arrive in Victoria on Sunday to register for the training session for those who wish to participate in the sit in. The training is for preparing for civil disobedience and the chance of being arrested, should the RCMP and Government pursue such actions.

Participants from Haisla, Tsimshian, Gitxsan and Tahltan have signed up and are ready to leave for the trip. Some are traveling with the bus and others are flying down and will board the bus Sunday in Vancouver.

They have received some funding from the ‘Defend Our Coast’ coordinators and Save the Salmon environmental group. The delegation of Elders would like to stay until Wednesday, October 24, 2012 but the donations received does not allow for a longer stay.

If you would like to show your support the Defend Our Coast organization has a paypal account that you can deposit your donation to. There is also a Paypal link on the front page (top left)of the Terrace Daily.

All donations and support will be recorded and recognized during the trip and will be posted online. Monies will be accounted for and distributed to all participants.

Excellent, but why...

I am wondering if any non-First Nations Elders were invited on the bus trip. This is an issue which concerns B.C. Elders of all shapes, sizes and colours. If not, why not? Just wondering...

and Good Luck!
Know you take along with you the well wishes of those who cannot attend.
This event should be the wake up call the rest of the country needs to pay attention!
