Northwest Science and Innovation Society in partnership with the University of Northern BC (UNBC) organized and hosted a hugely successful Quantum Leaps Conference at UNBC Terrace Campus last Monday November 19th, 2012.

This event was sponsored by Northern Savings Credit Union and Society for Canadian Women in Science & Technology (SCWIST)

With everyone's participation over 50+ female students in Grades 10 - 12 were mentored by 11 female professionals in the fields of science and technology. This conference was a great success because of such collaborative support.

Student feedback was overwhelmingly positive and included:

"The best thing about today was listening to people speak about how they got to where they are today and all the cool things they experienced."

"I feel inspired to go out and do what I want. All of these women have showed me that the hard work is completely worth it."

"Today I learned that there are so many fields of science that I have never even considered and being here really opened my eyes to the amazing things that women are doing in our area."

"I'd like to learn more about forensic nursing and help young kids."

"I'm excited to grow up! I have a lot of decisions to make but I'm not stressed about how soon I need to make these decisions."

"The best thing about today was meeting new people with the same interests as me."

We wish to extend our appreciation for the efforts in mentoring young women across the Northwest region and look forward to future participation in various NSIS activities in the near future. The ongoing support and involvement is critical to the success of our mandates.
