NEWS RELEASE · 14th December 2012
A man attempted to talk a 17 yr old boy into giving him a ride today, becoming so persistent that the boy feared for his safety and used a bottle to threaten the man away.
At approximately 1:30 PM today on the north side of Hwy 16 near Mac’s Convenience Store a man in a navy blue Dodge pick up truck approached a boy and offered him a ride.
When the boy said no the man became very persistent. The boy began to fear for his safety and grabbed a bottle and threatened the man. The man fled westbound on Hwy 16 and turned on to Hwy 37.
Police were able to identify a suspect quickly with the help of the public. A person reported that they knew a truck matching the suspect vehicle description and were able to give police a first name. From there, police were able to identify a 56 yr old man known to police.
Police are continuing their investigation into this incident. "There was a white truck, possibly a 2012 Dodge, that drove by and the passenger put his hand out of the window and gave the boy a thumbs up. He directed this gesture at the boy while this altercation was happening. We are requesting that this person call us," says Cpl Sean Hall, Terrace RCMP.
