NEWS RELEASE · 19th December 2012
On Tuesday Decmber 18, 2012 the British Columbia government announced a decision to impose a permanent ban on oil and gas exploration in the Klappan Range in the province’s northwest.
This was cause for people throughout the world to celebrate the victory of many hard working individuals who were willing to lay it all on the line to stop the Royal Dutch Shell Project. From the Klabona Keepers, a group of Tahltans who swore to defend their traditional territories, to the Skeena Watershed Conservation Coalition, who worked diligently with creative and strategic forms of public awareness for just under 10 years.
Celebrations were held throughout the Northwest. The following post was displayed on the SWCC Facebook wall.
This afternoon we're going to celebrate watershed wide! From 4pm-6pm, people will be gathering together to share in the moment. We've won! It's time to celebrate! So come have some grub and some beverages with us.

Prince Rupert - Nathan Cullen, our Member of Parliament who campaigned on the Sacred Headwaters issue, who spoke at countless events, in films and the media advocating for communities, will be having a meet and greet at Cowpuccino's 25 Cow Bay Road and we think you should head on over there and give him a HIGH FIVE!
At 5pm, we will all raise a glass to the Sacred Headwaters. So no matter where you are, what you're doing or who you're with, you can raise your glass knowing that we will be raising a glass with you and the countless others around the watersheds.
We're planning a GIANT celebration for January 19th in Terrace! So SAVE THE DATE!!!
The Sacred circle News wants to extend their gratitude to the Tahltan Nation who stood up and continue to stand against damage to the land water and air and to the Skeena Watershed Conservation Coalition. Thank you for inspiring us to become conservationists, thank you for teaching us how to persevere and thank you for showing us how to never back down, no matter how big your opponent may be.
A victory for you is a victory for all mankind! You have given us hope in a darkened Harper gone mad world!
