This is a statement from one of the treaty team members, this is our consultation and notification!

"There is a ceremony tomorrow, but it is nothing legal or crucial"

TO THE MEMBERS OF KITSUMKALUM AND KITSELAS AND ANYONE ELSE WHO CARES ABOUT OUR TERRITORIES AND LAND!

IDLE NO MORE IS RIGHT HERE IN OUR BACKYARD! THEY ARE SIGNING TREATY DOCUMENTS THIS AFTERNOON AT 1PM IN KITSUMKALUM AND 3PM AT KITSELAS!

WITHOUT A MANDATE FROM THE MEMBERS! THERE WAS NO CONSULTATION, NO VOTE, THEIR SNEAKY WAY OF NOTIFYING WAS ONE LITTLE PIECE OF PAPER DELIVERED AT DINNER TIME TO ONLY A FEW MEMBERS 1 DAY BEFORE SIGNING!

WHERE CAN WE GO TO FOR HELP? HOW CAN WE STOP THIS? THERE IS NOBODY WE CAN GO TO AND NOTHING WE CAN DO AS MEMBERS TO STOP THIS!

Nothing legal? is it not a "binding document?" and as for crucial? why are they sneaking it in the back door if it is not crucial? if it was something really great for Kitsumkalum and Kitselas then why not have a meeting and get everyone's support? they have known for months!

Nothing legal or crucial?

This document is likely to confirm the Kitsumkalum and Kitselas people have now been completely consulted and no longer will they have the right to complain, or use the legal avenue to claim, they have not been consulted.

It is likely that after today the Kitselas and Kitsumkalum will no longer have any recourse through the courts.

The present leadership will have compromised their rights completely. This with one days notice to the Band membership.

It is sneaky, underhanded just like all other agreements, with there half - truths counting as consultation!

If any one cares about their ancestors territories and their history as Indians then we had better start standing up and saying so, or they are going to stomp all over our aboriginal rights and title and anything else they can get away with!

WITHOUT A MANDATE FROM THE MEMBERS! WITHOUT CONSULTING THE MEMBERS! WITHOUT A VOTE FROM THE MEMBERS! PLEASE REMEMBER THIS WHEN IT COMES TIME FOR THE AIP VOTE!

What our band councils, treaty teams and the government are doing today is a travesty of justice. What happened to “consent?"

Where do the band councils and treaty negotiators get there mandate from to sign these Incremental Agreements?

Surely, not from the members. We did not have a vote, we are not informed and we got less than 36 hours notice that this was even going to happen.

We don't know what parcels of land are in these documents and we don't know what else they are cramming in there! These are BINDING documents!

You have to ask yourself what are they afraid of? And what is so important that they have to stomp all over our aboriginal title and rights! Yet again!

The treaty mission statement says “be informed, be involved!

So, why are they being so sneaky? Delivering one little piece of paper at dinner time 1 day before this signing. That is not informing us, that is not involving us.

The band council's and treaty negotiators have known about this for a long time, you don't get someone like Ida Chong to come to Terrace at the last minute notice.

If this can't be stopped today, I hope everyone remembers how they have not consulted, informed, involved or even invited any of us when it comes time to vote for the AIP! They might as well give the land back now! Why wait for the NO VOTES?

I understand and respect your choice to remain anonymous. It is too late for me. You should be proud of yourself, and everybody should be proud to mention your name. Freedom of speech should not make a life so difficult.

They (Government of Canada and treaty employees) have even stole our regalia and colours. I see treaty signers posing as traditional chiefs in black and red garb. A genuine, Tsimshian Simoighet could never treaty land, rights, Earth, nor culture away in such a blatantly disrespectful way.

Keep your head up, and keep talking.
A Corporation can move a camp, make money on my reserve....

And I can't without treaty, so Gerald Wesley says...I was told that I cannot move onto my traditional territory, (Nelson River, Alice Creek), and build a little hydro-electric plant and sell my power.

Only big corporations can build a 300 man camp, make money, and benefit on my territory!

My ancestoral territories! And I don't have a say?
People do have power - read on

THIS is what the power of people can do. I want to point this out because this is huge, re: the story to the link. That means every day, normal people, educated or UNEDUCATED. And I don't care how uneducated someone is, or some others think - we are all human and all part of this earth and so it can be done. There is power here people. It's the voice that counts. Never think you are too small or too unimportant to have a voice.

Good for you Band Member - you go!

re: Short Notice - contact as much media you can
Comment by CC on 31st January 2013
What you need to do is contact all media sources possible. Go online and look up "how to submit a news story" and then look for "contact us" and then contact them and tell them what is going on.
Post this on all social media websites, ie: Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Gmail, etc, etc, etc. This will then spread and the word will get out. You have to get as many people to hear this as possible so that the "secret and underhanded" signing is then in the dirty open. Fight this will all your might. And it's never too late - start now and don't stop and blast all the media. They will want to hear of this - think of the coverage of how the slant on the Idle No More has been negative and this devious move is happening and you are trying to do things in order and in correct manner. In this case who exactly is playing the game. We know who. The rest of Canada should know too.
RESIDENTIAL SCHOOLS DID NOT MAKE INDIANS EDUCATED
Comment by Rick Smith on 31st January 2013
It is embarrassing. It is no different than a seven or eight year old negotiating a multi-billion dollar contract with a team of corporate executives.

Imagine a poor family, struggling day to day just to feed their family. Having to hunt for food, not for sport, but out of necessity. Imagine never being able to take a vehicle in for service but to always rob parts off of parts cars and getting friends to help hay-wire it together.

Then imagine someone buying the family a fleet of new cars and trucks, new homes and extensive holiday trips. Imagine the head of the family being wined and dined at the most exclusive of restaurants; even the Premier of the Province along with the most powerful executives on the globe coming to shake their hands and compliment them on their intelligence.

Imagine being able to lift your family out of generations of turmoil and depravation, from poverty and extreme hardship. Would you turn it down?

Welcome to Kitsumkalum and Kitselas, the Indians guided by white executives (Roger Dodger and Kris Night) telling them just how smart they are. While all the rest of the Indians across Canada learned after hundreds of years what happens when you sign a deal with the white devils, the recent graduates of the Res Schools can’t see the forest for the trees. Welcoming Treaties and CN while the rest of Canada is protesting, stopping trains and demanding treaties be respected.

It is embarrassing. It is no different than a seven or eight year old negotiating a multi-billion dollar contract with a team of corporate executives.
Nothing Legal? Except a signature of commitment!
Comment by Harold Johanson on 31st January 2013
Signatures and initials to documents are legally binding. Where did your Treaty team member go to school?

Anyone who has been inolved in signing a mortgage . . . oh yeah, reserve indians have no experiance with that because they can't get one . . . know they have to initial each page. This confirms they have read, understand and agree to everything on the page. Same thing goes with Wills.

Nothing legal or crucial?
