North Coast Nightmares
There’s a new game in town, and it’s rolling to the Terrace Sportsplex. On Saturday, August 31, the North Coast Nightmares will host their first Roller Derby Bout (game) against Mile Zero Mercy Roller Girls from Dawson Creek. This is a family event, with tickets priced at $10 for adults, free for children (12 & under) and a night of thrills not to be missed!

The North Coast Nightmares play Flat Track Roller Derby. This is a predominantly female sport where two teams of five girls on roller skates battle for points on the track with the aggression of hockey minus the padding. While roller derby in the 70′s was often rehearsed, modern derby is definitely a full contact sport. Skaters are athletes that train hard and attend practices and scrimmages regularly. The bruises, blocks, hits, and falls that you will see are all real.

When you attend the Bout, there are a few things you should know. There will be hard hits, suicide seats, loads of music, door prizes, beer gardens (19+), sports commentators, Team Merchandise to buy, loud cheering and an awesome after party. Suicide seats are the most exciting seating option at a bout. Right on the track. Not for the faint of heart, as you might get a roller girl in your lap. Also, not for those with a bad back or anyone under the age of 19.

This is the first Bout hosted in the Northwest of BC. The Nightmares have spent the summer traveling throughout the province to play Bouts, and will be closing the season with their first home game. They would not have travelled without the dedication of fundraising and support from community sponsors such as: Bob Erb, Hawk Air, The Blackstone’s Restaurant and many more. “The Nightmares are incredibly excited and proud to be hosting this game and showing our community the uniqueness, athleticism and power of the sport of Roller Derby” said Jessica Hogg, team representative, during a recent presentation to Terrace City Council. The Nightmares successfully requested the City waive their venue rental fee for their upcoming event and are extremely grateful.

Come out to the Terrace Sportsplex and support local Roller Derby on August 31. The Nightmares are still looking for volunteers to help and for more information please contact us on Facebook or at northcoastnightmares,,, Tickets are available at Ruins Board Shop, Misty River Books or any Derby Girl and will be $10 in advance and $15 at the door. The After Party will be at the Terrace Curling club with a wicked DJ to pack the dance floor all night; the public is invited to attend at $5 cover, Bout attendees get in free!
