On May 20, 2012 the Terrace Daily wrote an article which detailed the likely impact on the Sockeye run. Sockeye Salmon migrate the farthest away from the west coast of BC and Alaska towards the waters off the coast of Russia and Japan. Read the entire article here
Here is an excerpt; As the returning salmon come to spawn they will be returning from the North Pacific having swam through all the waters dumped from the crippled reactors that were running at the time of the incident. Heavily contaminated water is continuously being discharged into the ocean and scientists testing the catches have discovered high levels of cesium and other elements in Minke Whales and Salmon along with other sea life. We are very likely to discover the eggs dropped and fertilized by the returning salmon are crippled or possible completely dead due to the effects of the radioactive exposure. In four years, a complete cycle turn around, we may find the headwaters devoid of salmon altogether.
Today, a year and a few months later, the latest news is the Sockeye have not even returned. We cannot be sure of the exact cause but one thing we can be certain of; all governments and industry folks have been completely irresponsible and negligent in performing their fiduciary duty; that which is to perform the tasks and functions to ensure all activities are for the betterment of society as a whole.
The Fukushima meltdown, which the Terrace Daily was also the first to fully inform the public regarding,
