Terrace 2010 BC Winter Games
As the nation celebrates the success of our Olympic athletes in Vancouver, another major sporting event is just one week away from taking place in BC – the Terrace 2010 BC Winter Games. This event is the training ground for many future Olympians such as BC’s Maëlle Ricker who won Gold in women’s boardercross just last week. She competed in the 1992 Port Alberni Summer Games and the Chilliwack 1993 Summer Games.
On March 3 more than 1,100 athletes from all over BC converge in this northwestern community to achieve their personal best. It’s going to be an exciting four days of competition in Terrace March 4-7 as athletes compete in 16 different sports. With events happening in Kitimat, Onion Lake Cross Country Ski Trails, Terrace, Thornhill, Kitsumkalum and Shames Mountain, the entire region will be buzzing with activity.
“We’ve had more than 100 key volunteers including our 14 directors and two office administrators logging hundreds of volunteer hours leading up to these Games,” says President Peter Weeber. “It’s been an amazing journey getting here and we’re lucky to have such dedicated people taking care of every last detail to make this event a huge success.”
More than 1,550 volunteers have registered to help with the Games and they are all looking forward to playing their part in showing Terrace’s hospitality. From volunteering at sports venues, to providing first aid and security coverage to providing more than 5,500 meals for the participants during the Games, our volunteers will be helping out with every aspect of this awesome event.
The Terrace 2010 BC Winter Games take place in Terrace March 4-7. To become part of our volunteer team contact the Terrace 2010 BC Winter Games office at 250-635-2010 to register over the phone.
