The Terrace 2010 BC Winter Games confirms that a male speed skater was injured during a race Friday, March 5 and is recuperating well today.
The young man suffered lacerations to his torso as the result of a fall and collision with another skater.
Paramedics and a physician were on site at the time of the incident and were able to provide immediate medical attention to the injured skater. The young man was transported to the Kitimat General Hospital located next door to Tamitik Arena where the event was held.
The young athlete's parents are with him now and he is in good condition and is expected to fully recover from his injuries.
"We are extremely pleased with the quick response by Terrace 2010 BC Winter Games officials, local paramedics and staff at the Kitimat General Hospital," says Terrace 2010 BC Winter Games President Peter Weeber. "Our thoughts are with the athlete and his family as he recuperates."
