Annette Richards celebrates as her ticket number is drawn for the free Seasons Pass for next year.
REPORTING · 15th March 2010
Merv Ritchie
It was truly an ugly ski day at Shames Mountain yesterday as skiers battled the wet conditions at the bottom to get on the chair to make it back to the top. The rain fell all day as the decision to close early for this season appeared to be a very good one. On Thursday there was some fresh snow but ever since, as has been true all spring, the warm weather returned and the only precipitation falling was water.

As happens every year, the last day was the day for the draw for a free seasons pass. Those who bought passes for last year, and who were present in the day lodge upstairs, were all entered and eligible for the win. Shames employees Amber and April announced the rules and then, after shaking the bucket of tickets, pulled the ticket number belonging to Annette Richards from Prince Rupert.

April wanted to thank everyone for the great season and gave special acknowledgement to the manager of the hill, Laird Carmichael. Carmichael came to Terrace from the famous ski hill in Rossland, BC., the one where world class skiers have trained near Trail.

Early Bird Passes will be available all month beginning on April 1st.

Entertainment was provided by a pair of musicians with great harmonic talent, Jordan Beblow and Kenny Giesbrecht. A guitar and a harmonica and two great voices completed the end of a great (although short) season at Shames Mountain.
