The Terrace City Councillors begin their meeting this evening in a closed door session to discuss amongst themselves a matter relating to personnel. At 7:00pm they will close the door quoting Community Charter Division 3, Section 90 (1) (a), which states;

Meetings that may or must be closed to the public

90 (1) A part of a council meeting may be closed to the public if the subject matter being considered relates to or is one or more of the following:

(a) personal information about an identifiable individual who holds or is being considered for a position as an officer, employee or agent of the municipality or another position appointed by the municipality;


At 7:30pm the regular Council meeting is scheduled to begin with presentations from; Jean Thompson on the Housing Needs Task Force, Tom La Porte on Canada Post's Modernization plans and Yvonne Moen with Roy Nelson on a request for audible traffic signals at the intersection of Kalum Street and Lakelse Avenue.

Other items on the agenda are; the revision to the proposed bakery home conversion on Park next to the Medical Center to include a wheelchair ramp, a application to revise the setbacks for a proposed four-plex on Haugland near the hospital, and various committee reports.

Under 'Special Reports' the April 12 agenda package reveals that once again, Magnum Road Builders has come in as the low bidder for the road reconstruction projects slated this year for the 4900 blocks of Scott Avenue and Lazelle Avenue. Council will be asked to approve the award of these contracts to Magnum Road Builders.

A second report details how Kermodei Tourism will have their agreement with the City renewed and extended to a two year agreement for the operation of the Visitor Information Center. Previously this was set as a one year term when the Kermodei Tourism Society took over the operation of the Visitor Information Center from the Chamber of Commerce.

The RCMP are also presenting a report on the first quarter of this year. Of significance are the details of a male who committed two armed robberies within seven hours and was found on the West side of Lakelse Lake after climbing a tree. Two other events related in this report are the arrests of Freddie Mowatt and Jason Snider on Cocaine trafficking charges and the raid on a home on King ave which resulted in charges being approved. Final approval will be given to the Zoning change on the property between Mountain Vista Drive and Kalum Lake Drive from C4 (Commercial Residential) and R2 (Two Family Residential) to R1 (One Family Residential).

The final piece of business prior to the 'New Business' portion of the meeting will be the first readings of a bylaw to pave the portion of Davis street West(correction - this area is East of Eby towards Sparks) of Eby. This bylaw will approve the charge of $52 per foot of frontage to the property owners who front onto this portion of Davis Street.
