NEWS RELEASE · 16th June 2010
On June 15, 2010, at approximately 8:16pm, the Terrace RCMP received a call that a young child had been struck by a vehicle in the Terrace Walmart parking lot.
The Terrace RCMP, Terrace Fire Department, and B.C. Ambulance Service attended the scene and provided medical aid to the child. The child was subsequently transported to hospital.
Witnesses on scene observed a young child dart out into the roadway before being struck by a passing vehicle. The male driver of the suspected vehicle was spoken to on scene by police. Investigation determined the male to be under the influence of alcohol. The male driver was arrested and charged with Impaired Driving Causing Bodily Harm. He has since been released and is to appear in court at a later date.
The child was treated and released from hospital into the care of his mother a short time after the incident having only suffered a minor injury.
Thankfully this incident was not serious or life threatening, but police are requesting and reminding everyone with small children to be extra vigilant about remaining close to their children in places which are accessible to vehicles.
