REPORTING · 16th June 2010
Merv Ritchie
In a Committee of the Whole Meeting today during the lunch hour, Terrace City Council determined to support the request of the Terrace River Kings to open the Terrace Main Arena 10 days earlier than was originally scheduled to accommodate some preseason games and activities.

In an addendum to the Terrace City Council meeting of June 14, Kevin Kennedy delivered a written presentation encouraging the City to open the Arena by September 25th. The current plan was only for the Hidbur Arena (the new ice sheet) to be open by October 5th. The new River Kings Organization is attempting to generate some cash flow to assist the Senior Men's Hockey team by hosting preseason games which requires seating and ticket sales.

According to Heather Nunn, the Terrace Corporate Administrator, Leisure services reported the extra costs of four to five thousand dollars will be offset by other groups who will make use of the early ice. The River Kings will, of course, pay for their ice time and have indicated they may buy more time if the ice is ready.

The River Kings will now be able to initiate a drive to sell season tickets having secured a schedule they can count on.
