Food is Everybody's Business Forum
The aroma of a good pot of soup is nourishment for the soul and nutrition to the body. The theme of the Food Forum was likewise. 40 people brought veggies down to the Health Unit Auditorium at noon Friday the 18th of June to enjoy a bowl of stone soup and to learn more about Terrace's diverse harvestable commodities. Ksan, Northern Heal and SPARC BC sparked the appetites of those attending to support more local food production in all aspects of growing and harvesting from the ground to the trees, from the rivers to the seas.
The Terrace region is rich in crops and as diversified as can be imagined. While the soup simmered local experts shared information on birch sapping, sprouting, meat production, nursery growth, brewing and old fashioned farming, After a delicious meal the panelists and audience engaged in a doctometric exercise to identify issues and gaps in our community that could or should be addressed to make our township more sustainable. This followed with a review and a vote on the groups most highly ranked concerns that lead directly into brainstorming to take action that would lead to resolution.
14 key steps were identified and actions laid out. The afternoon was fullsome and rewarding with plans that may lead to positive changes to improver food security and our economy.
