Festivals Kitimat
EDITOR NOTE: There is a semi formal arrangement between the two Northwest communities of Terrace and Kitimat. Terrace won't hold a big Canada Parade and party festival (July first) and Kitimat wont hold an event on the weeklong Riverboat Days celebrations (BC Day/August first). Read expose' on it here. Therefore, if you wish to partake in the big festival, Kitimat is the place to be tomorrow.

Start your Canada Day celebrating off with a pancake breakfast hosted by the Kiwanis Club in the upper City Centre Mall parking lot, which starts from 7-11am.

The annual Kinsmen Club of Kitimat Canada Day parade will be leaving from Mountainview Square at 12 noon with many floats, marchers and vehicles decorated for Canada’s birthday. The best decorated floats representing the theme of “2010 to Back When” will win prizes! You can still hand in your parade forms at our office in the mall

After the parade, the stage show will begin at Riverlodge and will be going on the entire day until the fireworks at 11pm. There will be door prizes, entertainment, and a raffle for the chance to win two tickets anywhere Hawkair will fly! Come out and show your support for local entertainers. Inside Riverlodge there will be a Canada Day birthday cake handed out by the Girl Guides, so make sure you come get a piece! The Girl Guides will also be handing out seedlings for those interested. There will be about 28 local vendors selling food, crafts, clothing and much more at our International Food Fair this year, so come prepared to do some shopping.

There are still some spaces left for teams to sign up to play in the Canada Day Street Hockey Challenge Tournament hosted by Liberal Botelho. The tourney will happen from 10am until 10pm, with a break for the parade. All ages are welcome! Call or come pick up a registration form today at the Festivals Office, Riverlodge, Tamitik or contact Liberal at 639-1016 for more info.

On the field, there will be soccer games galore and something new this year, a field lacrosse game.

There will be good times and lots of prizes waiting for the kids at the Kid’s Fun Zone, hosted by the Kitimat Child Development Centre. The zone will be open from 1:30-3:45. There will be pony rides done by the Kitimat 4H club from 1:30-4pm over by the Riverlodge Courtyard. Helicopter rides will also be happening from 1-6:30pm in baseball field #2. Each ride can hold five people at a cost of $40.00 each.

Remember to bring along some non-perishable food items to help the charity Texas Hold-Em Poker Tournament happening in the Riverlodge Community from 1-9pm. There are many prizes and no entry fee, so come out and help out the Kitimat Food Bank. For more info. contact Bernie James at 632-4795. Bring a few extra perishables, because every item you bring gives you a ticket to win a 32’ HD LCD Flat Screen TV, donated by KCS Restoration (Booth –1A).

Make sure you check out the 7th Annual Show & Shine car show from 1-4pm at the Tamitik area, contact Jane Cummings for more information at 250-632-5566. Don’t forget that there is free public bus service from 10am-6pm and a free fun swim from 6pm-9pm at the Sam Lindsay pool on Canada Day.
