If you like local politics, then tonight’s Kitimat City Council Meeting, 7:30 PM at the Council Chambers is the place to be. There are three presentations not to miss.
Barbara Campbell is presenting to Council on the upcoming Fastball Tournament which is coming up next week. Dr. Bruce Bidgood is presenting on Housing issues. Finally, Michelle Perret and Kevin Brown are giving Council an Enbridge Project Update.
Councillor Randy Halyk is making a trio of motions for Council tonight. The first is to hire an acoustics engineer to examine Tamitik. The second motion is to change the status report layout to make it easier to read. The final motion is for the District to offer a tax holiday for any investor who restarts the Eurocan Mill under the Poyry Model.
There are two bylaws being dealt with at the meeting. The first is the Final Adoption of the Recreation Fees for 2010. The second is a parking amendment for KCH which will add a 15 minute drop off sign to the school property.
There are three reports. Two of which are TECUPs. The second is for a memorial bench in Mountain View Square. There are three communications. The first is from the town of Smithers on the proposed Alaska Bradfield Road, the second is from Chery Willis with a request for a referendum on Enbridge and the final communication is from the Coast Mountain Board of Education on the Advisory Planning Commission Member.

wouldn't that be great... I would think it would behoove (that's right I said behoove) council to try and attract business that didn't need a tax holiday... businesses that see our area for what it is and what we stand for and want to fit in... starting a pulp mill for the sake of having a pulp mill is old school thinking... we live in the most beautiful, pristine area of the world, get off your duffs and find companies that aspire to do the same...
