Terrace U-16 boys soccer teams second opponent at the provincials was the number one seed and the coastal cup champion North Coquitlam Gunners.
The game started very tentatively for both sides as the desperate Coquitlam side needed a victory after losing their first game of the tourney. For the first thirty five minutes both teams conceded very few opportunities as most of the play was concentrated in the middle of the field. Tyler Missere then broke the tie with a great shot from a long ways out that caught the keeper off his line. (the world cup announcers would have described the shot as a tad bit presumptuous). For Missere the monkey was finally off his back as the last goal he scored might have occurred just before the internet was created.
The Kermodes took the one nil lead into the half. The second half started the same way with mostly scrambly play in the midfield until Brandon Stella ripped one (like coach Chapman after a bowl of Chili) from thirty five yards out . It was a bullet the keeper had no chance on. Jeff kennedy added to that on a penalty kick after a courageous play by Nick Homeniuk that ended when the goaltender took him out on a thundering check.
The boys then scored their nicest goal of the tourney as Roscoe (rascal) Lenardt headed home a brilliant left footed cross from the charging Missere. The scoring was rounded out by Ty Struyk on a beautiful left footed half volley from outside the eighteen yard line.
Alvin Seymour and Jeff Kennedy were the players of the game for Terrace as Alvin man marked and shut down their most dangerous player and Jeff won every head ball from the sweeper position.
