Lots has been happening on the Misty Isles and will continue to happen.
The recent Skidegate Days featured slo-pitch and volleyball tournament, bingo, Haida canoe races, a marathon run, a walk, and a bicycle race, a beer garden, Haida dancers, archery, and more.
There was a youth dance on Friday, which i did not attend, followed by a double bill dance on Saturday with Percy Williams, the renowned Haida saxophonist, as the warm-up act to the Steve Marshall band from Vancouver. Percy segued from slow classics into some lively tunes which packed the dance floor. His band played at a pleasant volume which allowed for conversation.
The headline act has played this venue on many occasions but this time the Steve Marshall band's vocalist was barely audible over the back up vocalists and musicians, who played so loudly as to cause sound distortion, which was disppointing.
Throughout the weekend, locals, vistors from other parts of Haida Gwaii, and many tourists enjoyed the various events which also included a pancake breakfast, a salmon barbeque dinner and a variety of food and game booths. The weather was glorious and everyone was smiling during this annual event.
Haawa to the many hardworking volunteers who made this a success!
