REPORTING · 10th August 2010
Merv Ritchie
The sun might be shining and the weather hot and stifling but the Terrace River Kings are thinking Ice. Beginning August 17th the Kings will start what they are calling a conditioning skate. If anyone thinks they have what it takes or maybe just wants to see what is up with the team, you are invited to come to the arena and enjoy.

This is the start of the pre-season. Registration is $50 and this fee covers six nights of skating; August 17, 19, 24, 26, 31 and September 2. The Hidber Arena will have the ice in place on the 16th, which is where this will all take place. Registration is at 7:30pm and skating will begin at 8:30.

According to Kevin Kennedy, this is not tryouts but is for those interested in skating and seeing if they want to join this newly invigorated team. Tryouts will take place later in September.

The team has a new Coach, Roger Tooms, and Ray Hallock returns to the team again to take up the managerial role.

“Our group has come together and are taking things really serious, on ice and off”, stated Kennedy referring to eight community minded individuals, “We formed a non profit Society called the Terrace Senior Men’s Hockey Club. We intend to make sure we are sustainable, bring money in at the gate and have money in the bank.”

Kennedy got excited when he spoke about the first exhibition game at home, here in Terrace on Saturday, September 25. It will be the feature game of a weekend long 20 team old timers tournament being hosted by the all girls DQ Blizzards. This will be a big weekend for Terrace as teams arrive from all across the Northwest.

There has been no commitment, as of this writing, who will be taking on the Riverkings for this exhibition match, but as Kennedy stated, “We owe Rupert a game.”

Seasons tickets are out now and are good for the 9 regular home games. They are a great price at $70 for Adults (12 and over) and only $35 for youth (11 and under). Tickets can be purchased at Kens Marine, Safeway, Braid Insurance, Totem Ford and other great Terrace business locations.
