REPORTING · 22nd August 2010
Terrace Daily
This Sunday the Terrace Kidney Group will be holding the first annual Terrace Kidney Walk at Ferry Island as part of an effort to raise awareness for kidney disease and donor registration.

The Terrace group was formed by resident Joan Lamele, who's family has been dealing with kidney disease for the for the past 15 years. The purpose of the group is to help create awareness in the general public and to have a place where people can get information and make friends. The group meets on the third Thursday of each month at Cafenara at 7pm.

Joan commented that this walk is a great way for the community to come together and learn about the Kidney Foundation of B.C., and to help to create some awareness about registering to be a donor at the B.C. Transplant Agency. She also noted that the walk will also act as a fundraiser for research, high quality healthcare, awareness, education and support, and promotion of organ donations.

Lamele is hoping that this annual event will grow in size but mostly in awareness.

Organizers welcome everyine to this free event. There is no registration fee or pledge required. T-shirts will be given to those who pledge $50 or more. There will also be some prizes given away. Bracelets and refreshments are available for all participants.

Registration starts at 12:30pm Sunday, August 22nd

Walk starts at 1:00
