Mr Lawrence J Shanoss, a resident of the Gitksan Nation, arrived in Victoria with an urgent request. It is all about saving young lives and he needs immediate support from those people who have the ability to make a difference. He writes;

Dear Premier Gordon Campbell

I am in Victoria and was standing outside your office Tuesday Afternoon.

I am willing to meet with you or The Minister of Sport at your earliest convenience.

To Whom It May Concern

It is with great concern that I am writing this email to you in regards to the grave concern that I personally have in relation to the kids . . .

Shanoss has developed a plan to help the young men and women of the region, those who are suffering the greatest suicide rate in British Columbia's history. A 59% suicide rate, according to Shanoss. As he wrote in his letter to Campbell, "Everytime the phone rings, we are much afraid of another bad news".

Shanoss believes sports and competition, a manner of exciting and involving the children of the region, is a solution to this terrible tragedy. And he is not just envisioning it he is doing it. Not single handedly, but almost. And the Government wishes to shuffle him off.

He has organized a group called Thunderous Images and has secured the rights to purchase 93 acres of land and buildings for the proposed indoor and outdoor sports complex. He has teamed up with numerous companies and philanthropist organizations donating thousands upon thousands of dollars of time, design work and equipment. All believe and understand the need. Shanoss is simply waiting for the contact with the Government and Gordon Campbell.

The Soccer Stadium is designed and en-route. The International Soccer Leagues are waiting and ready. Northwest Community College and New Caledonia are also on board, according to Shanoss.

Shanoss, a soccer player of note himself, played with Grand National Chief Shawn Atleo for three years. He was instrumental in huge west coast first nations soccer success stories throughout the 1980's and 1990's.

Today he has a plan. A plan which requires attention. A plan which might have an impact on the young people of the region. A plan which has support from many professionals and is attracting international interest.

A plan which it appears Gordon Campbell is attempting to imagine does not exist; maybe similar to the imaginings the suicides do not exist.
The designs are ready, we just need help.

Greetings from Victoria and the sight seeing since coming here, what a luxurious Elders Facilities and I am afraid to walk into the doorway and maybe I should from a First Nations point of view, we are and maybe having discussions regarding elders in our communities , you have to see this to believe it,and the recreational facilities are phenominal, it just takes my breath away.
Just a note of interest, VICTORIA BC, LJS.
We must unite to ensure we also get the benefits in the revenue sharing that is coming,and not just a chosen few.
Doing things

We need to do things, in the past we built a skate park this field is next, just needs more pressure to make the engine of progress start. Projects that motivate young people to participate and grow threaten the "Takers" positions. "Takers" are self serving people such as Gordon Campbell and Steven Harper. You and your project threaten them, any money spent on projects like this is money not available to the "Takers"
