On Thursday, September 2, 2010 at around 5:00 p.m. Prince Rupert Rural Unit received a call to assist Canadian Coast Guards with a boat that was run aground in the passage between Baron Island and Dunira Island. The Coast Guards reported that a lone male was slumped over the helm and was deceased. The RCMP marine section, rural section and forensic unit attended the scene.
There was severe damage to the bow of the vessel with articles inside the boat were scattered throughout the cabin consistent with a sudden impact. The 52-year-old local man was removed from the boat and taken to the coroner's office for examination.
