The B.C. Standing Committee on Finance and Government Services kicks off its consultation tour for the 2011 budget today in Vancouver. The 2011 budget is significant because the government will be required to set the carbon tax rate for 2013 and determine what to do with any new revenues. The carbon tax is currently scheduled to increase to $30 per tonne by 2012.
Matt Horne, director of the Pembina Institute's B.C. Energy Solutions Program, will be presenting to the committee at 6:05 p.m. and will be available for comment before and after his presentation. The Pembina Institute's presentation will focus on how the carbon tax can be strengthened to be as fair and effective a tool as possible in taking action on climate change.
