Terrace Little Theatre is once again taking on a modern classic with their staging of “Steel Magnolias”.
Written in 1987 by Robert Harling 10 days after his beloved sister died from complications of diabetes it was subsequently made into the movie hit starring Julia Roberts, Sally Field, Daryl Hannah and Shirley Maclaine.
Director Marianne Brorup Weston is no stranger to converting quality material to the community theatre stage. She credits husband Alan with coming up with the idea of a ‘chick flick’ for the season opener.
Brorup Weston has assembled a stellar cast for the November show. Greer Kaiser plays beauty salon owner Truvy with Amy Turner as her assistant Annelle. Life long friends Clairee, the grande dame and Ouiser, the eccentric curmudgeon are played by Mary Ann Lawrence and Sharon Lynch. Debbie Haynes is M’Lynn, mother to Shelby, the prettiest girl in town, played by Heather Zanardo.
The production has some challenges. It requires a real hair washing sink and dryer along with all the accoutrements for achieving “natural beauty”, including a number of high-quality wigs and all manner of 1980s clothing.
TLT is hopeful the community will as always step forward to assist with costumes and props.
