Rememberance Day Special

Do you know why you are free? For most people, freedom is something that we take for granted; it is something we were born with, and we accept as our right. That was not always the case, and worse, it is also not guaranteed. We received our freedom as a gift from thousands and thousands of men and women who are no longer here to thank, and thousands more yet that risked their lives, but after sometimes years of suffering, were able to return to their families. We keep our freedom today because of the selfless efforts of our current day Veterans.

We are free because of the sacrifice they made; and there is no real way we can repay them for that sacrifice, but we can at least Remember them. On Thursday, November 11th, 2010, please take the time to Remember them. If you cannot attend the ceremonies in person, at 11am, at least give them 2 minutes of your time. At 11am, wherever you are, whatever you are doing, stop, stand, close your eyes in silence, and give them just those 2 minutes. It is a pittance compared to what our Veterans have given you.

But if you can; join us, members of the Royal Canadian Legion, in a short but important ceremony to Remember those that have fallen for YOUR freedom. The parade leaves the Safeway Parking Lot at around 10:30am, and marches to the Tillicum Theatres, where a short service will be held in the one theatre, and broadcast live to the second theatre. We will then march to the Cenotaph to place wreaths, returning to the Safeway parking lot by 11:45 am. It is a total of only just over one hour of your time. Bring your family; bring your friends; our freedom is precious, talk to your family about what it cost to obtain and keep; remember and thank those that paid that price.

The ceremonies will be broadcast live by Citywest on the Community Channel, and will include a special memorial to the Fallen Hero’s, those young Canadians that have lost their lives in the past 12 months in Afghanistan. In addition, a presentation will be made honouring the Veterans who were or are residents of Terrace & Kitimat who have served you and their country.

Please join us after the ceremony at the Branch where lunch is available. Dinner will also be available at 5pm with Roast Beef & Chicken for $10 a plate. We look forward to seeing you there at the ceremony and at the Branch.
Thank You
