Penalty filled game see's Terrace lose 3-0 this weekend
A total of 58 minutes of penalties were called this weekend in a fiery battle between the western CIHL point leaders, the Terrace River Kings, and the league point leader, Smithers Steelheads. It ended by Smithers maintaining their hold and walking away with another shutout.
This was the second battle between the leaders and the first, November 13, was also a shutout for the Steelheads, 4-0 with almost half the penalty minutes.
The River Kings offered two goalies the chance to hold the Steelheads at bay and the Steelheads offered the Kings both their goalies to try and beat. But both Walsh and Krupop in net for the Kings took a loss. Walsh this past weekend faced 33 shots and let 3 pass between the posts. The Steelheads goalie Deba faced almost the same number, 31, but was able to keep them all out.
The previous weekend the Steelheads outshot the River Kings better than two to one. Krupop faced one shy of 50 shots allowing 4 to get by his pads. Smithers Goal tender, Perreault faced less than half, 23 shots.
Next weekend, November 27, will see the River Kings nursing their wounded pride by attempting to redeem themselves in Kitimat.
The Steelheads will be in Vanderhoof to do battle with the Ominica Ice. The Ice is the only team that has beat the Steelheads this year but that was the first game of the season, October 2. Since then the Ice have not won a second game and the Steelheads haven't lost. Not officially that is. Smithers had to forfeit a 5-1 win the next day due to a technicality which gave 2 more points to the Ice and is recorded as a loss for Smithers.
