December 14, 2010 at 17:19 hours, the Terrace RCMP responded to a complaint of a domestic incident on Kalum Street in down town Terrace. The suspect male departed the scene prior to police attendance. Police interviewed the female victim, and determined that she and suspect had been living in a common law relationship, and had separated a short time ago. The male had produced a handgun, and attempted to force her into his vehicle. The female resisted the males attempts at getting her into his car. Bystanders were observed by the suspect, causing him to flee prior to police arrival. Two calls of erratic driving were immediately received following the dispute. The suspects vehicle was later located at his residence.
A replica handgun was recovered at the scene on Kalum Street.
Police Emergency Response Team members were activated, and surrounded the suspects residence on Larch Avenue. Upon entering the residence, it was determined that the male had departed prior to Police arriving.
A small explosive device was located in the suspects residence, and the Explosive Disposal Unit from Vancouver are enroute to dispose of the item. There is no risk to the public in regards to this item.
The suspect in this matter was taken into custody Wednesday afternoon and police continue to investigate.
Police will be recommending charges in this matter which consist of:
Possession of an explosive device.
Using a firearm in the commission of an offence.
