REPORTING · 9th February 2011
At aproximately 2 pm yesterday afternoon an earthquake measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale was recorded off of the Coast of Oregon. The fracture zone on which this occurred is the same continental plate fractures extending north past Haida Gwaii.
In 2008 this same area was hit in the same spot off the coast of Oregon but it was also accompanied by a set of quakes near Haida Gwaii before and after.
The jagged line on the map is called the Blanco fracture of the Juan De Fuca fracture zone and this carries on north up past Haida Gwaii.
When one quake appears on this fracture line and region it is wise to consider earthquake preparedness.
