The Skeena Grade Eight boy’s basketball team wrapped up their season this past weekend in Prince Rupert. The zone playoffs included six teams, with Prince Rupert Senior Secondary (PRSS) hosting. At play were; Smithers Secondary, Mount Elizabeth from Kitimat, Thornhill Junior Secondary, Bulkley Valley Christian School (BVCS) and Skeena Junior.

Skeena Junior started on Friday with a pair of wins against Thornhill and BVCS. Saturday had Skeena up against a Kitimat team that would eventually take third place. Skeena started a little slow but came away with the win. This set up a final against PRSS. With lots of history between the two schools it had the makings of a good game. Both teams started out tentative with the score only 15-10 for PRSS at the half. Skeena had lots of chances but couldn't make them count. PRSS continued to put up points and came away with a well deserved win and the zone title.

The Skeena team played very well and had a great season. Tristan Walker from Skeena was named an all-star in the tournament as he did a great job from the point guard position. Brett Lavinge and Bishop Wilson also did great as the "big guys" in the paint, rebounding and playing great zone defence. Kyran Holland and Leslie Green were instrumental in the guard with strong forward positions. Ethan Jacobsen came on in relief and did a great work inside. Austin Crosby came off the bench, despite a bruised tail bone, and Bobby Lincoln came in at point guard rounding out the roster. Not at the zones was Liam Albright who also had a great season. The boys will finish off playing the Grade Eight girls team, and eating some pizza!
Way To Go!
