NEWS RELEASE · 1st March 2011
Arjunna Miyagawa
Local Buddhist Tom La Porte has formed a Tibetan Buddhist study group in Terrace. Although he is a follower of Tibetan Buddhism, he is making it clear to other Buddhists that this group is open to all, regardless of what lineage one may be practicing or studying.

I sat with Tom last week to get a feeling for this group. The overall feeling was one of newness. Although there is a solid core of people that are attending the sessions, the group is still very much in its infancy stage and is finding its rhythm. Tom has over 40 yrs of study to contribute and aims to work only from sound and reliable sources.

For those who are looking for like minded individuals to discuss Buddhist practices and philosophy, I recommend you stop by and see Tom and feel it out for yourself. It is important that you go in with an open mind. If you enter with assumptions or specific expectations of what this group is like, you may be in for a surprise.

Each evening starts off with a 20 minute sit and is followed up with discussion. Members are encouraged to bring in some readings for discussion, of which they are often to arouse critical thought.

Tom stated that the group has started with the fundamentals and that any new members would be brought up to speed.

Tom had alluded to a thought that eventually the group may look at sponsoring a Lama to come to Terrace. For the time being, he is
concentrating on the group and sharing Buddhist teachings.

The group is currently meeting bi-weekly on Thursdays at 7pm. For more information, contact Tom ,,, 615-1602.
