CONTRIBUTION · 7th March 2011
The 11th Annual Ruins Cup Skier and Snowboard Cross at Shames Mountain this past weekend, March 5th & 6th, was truly a family event. Ages of participants ranged from 9 yr old Jackson Bowles in the “13 & Under Skier” to his 45 year old dad, Ron Bowles, who raced in the “Men’s Ski Open” category.
Nine 9 year old snowboarder Lisa Nicholson competed against her 12 yr old brother Peter in the “13 & Under Snowboard” category.
We lucked out with 22cm of fresh snow at Shames. Clear, calm skies all day, and a great turn out of volunteers made for a fun and safe race.
The Ruins Cup Ridercross was just some of the fun going on at Shames this weekend.
Hawkair and Ruins worked together to create and promote an annual weekend event at Shames Mountain called SHREDFEST. It was intended to be a fun weekend celebrating our local mountain and life in Shredville with something for everyone.
And Shames Mountain was Shredville this weekend with a campfire, music and lots of giveaways.
Sunday March 6th was Family Day hosted by Hawkair and Don Diego’s with fun activities, crafts, and lots of goodies for kids.
One hundred and fifty Shredfest t-shirts were given out to Shames visitors on the weekend and Hawkair gave away a free flight to Vancouver for a family of four!
Next year any other interested local groups or business’ are welcome to join Hawkair and Ruins with their own Shredfest event or activity at Shames.
March 2012 dates are to be announced. Attached below are all the final results.
