Five Properties on Mountain Vista get rezoned from R1 - One Family Residential to R2 – Two Family Residential – New Taxes for Businesses Downtown

The Terrace administration released their agenda for tonight’s meeting at 7:30 pm in the Terrace City Hall. Gerry Martin is scheduled to share information only described as the “Northern Lodge Update” and the description of the presentation from NWCC is accompanied only with the name of the new President and CEO Denise Henning. The City has provided no further information through the agenda for any insight.

In regards to the presentation by TEDA, the City writes Rob Dykman and Executive Director Evan van Dyk will be delivering a six month update.

After these presentations the City Councillors will get down to their regular business of Council.

Council has approved the formation of a downtown improvement area and the ability of a new organization to get funded by a new tax levy. The proposed bylaw states the amount shall not exceed $0.71 on every $1000 of assessed value. This equates to $71 per year additional taxes on properties valued at $100,000.

Mountain Vista will soon be populated with five interspersed R2 zoned properties. There have been some minor property line adjustments on the South side of Mountain Vista Drive above Kalum Lake Drive.

Property owners on the 5000 and 5100 blocks of McConnell Street near to Thomas, will be facing some hefty charges as the City upgrades the “Sanitary/Sewer” services to the homes. The City has determined to charge all but 9 properties $125 for ever metre of road frontage.

The paving of Davis Avenue is being charged to the property owners and as the majority haven’t paid already the City will be borrowing the money to proceed and charge it back to the owners on their tax bill over ten years.

Cathy Jackson is up for being the Chief Elections officer again for the upcoming Municipal elections and her deputy, if all is approved, will be Debra Powell.

Much more will be discussed and debated including the most recent update on the building activities by the City’s Senior Building Inspector who states “permit values are up substantially from the last two years at this time.”

Why do some property owners have to pay $125 a meter for upgrades, while 9 get away free? If I was one paying, I think there would be a major fight at the council meeting.
