CONTRIBUTION · 1st June 2011
The long awaited Stanley Cup Final begins at 5:00 p.m. PST,Wednesday June 1st 2011, in Vancouver, with the Boston Bruins taking on the Vancouver Canucks in a best-of-seven series.
These play-offs give us a rare match-up of two Vezina Trophy contenders in goal, Tim Thomas for the Bruins and Roberto Luongo for the Canucks.
Both teams are very strong defensively and the Sedin brothers will have their hands full trying to get past the large and apt Zdeno Chara and equally strong Dennis Seidenberg. This year Daniel Sedin is a finalist for the Hart Trophy, league MVP, and last year Henrik Sedin won it.
The teams had encountered each other once this year on February 26th, and the Bruins had won 3-1, but significantly both Alex Edler and Kevin Bieska were missing from the defense, which is no longer the case.
Also recently cleared for play for the Canucks is another key player, Manny Malhotra, who had been off with an eye injury.
After the game tonight, there is a slightly unusual 3 day break, and they meet once again in Vancouver at 5:00 p.m. PST on Saturday June 4th.
The following games also all begin at 5:00 p.m. PST; on Monday June 6th and Wednesday June 8th in Boston, and if the series continues after that, then on Friday June 10th in Vancouver, another 3 day break, and into Boston for Monday June 13th.
Then finally back to Vancouver for the seventh game tie-breaker, if it should get to that, on Wednesday June 15th.
Cheer loud, cheer hard, cheer for the best team to win ! And most importantly, remain cheerful. Cheers !
