On Saturday June 18, 2011, at 10:40 a.m. the New Hazelton RCMP responded to a complaint of a fire at the Hazelton Secondary School.
The fire was discovered by an employee at the School who was able to smell smoke throughout the building. While trying to determine the source of the smoke, the employee discovered that someone had built a fire outside the building, against one of the back walls of the building. The fire did not spread throughout the building, however, did cause damage to the small portion wall where the fire was initially started. The Gitanmaax Fire Department attended the scene and extinguished the fire.
It is believed the fire was intentionally set sometime during the morning hours of June 18, 2011. The New Hazelton RCMP are requesting anyone with any information about this incident to contact either the New Hazelton RCMP or Crimestoppers at the numbers listed below.
