On Friday, August 12, 2011, at approximately 5pm, the Houston RCMP and B.C. Ambulance Service responded to a report of a single vehicle rollover on Highway 16, near Barrett Hat Rd., west of Houston, B.C.
The Chevrolet Tracker involved had been traveling west on Highway 16 when it lost control, rolling over and ejecting the male driver. The vehicle landed on top of the male driver who was freed only after witnesses lifted the vehicle off of him.
The driver was transported by ambulance to the Bulkley Valley District Hospital in Smithers, B.C. where he was pronouced dead a short while later.
The cause of the collision is still under investigation.
This is the second fatal collision on the north west corridor of Highway 16 within the last two weeks.
The North District West Traffic Services wants to remind all motorists to drive safe by wearing your seatbelt, don't drive if feeling tired, obey the speed limit, and don't drink and drive.
