MaryAnn Freeman
Having been married for 25 years,my husband and I have been living in Terrace for 20 of those years and raised our two daughters here and are now awaiting the first of 2 grandchildren.

With my husband, Leyton, operating his trucking company out of our home and myself acting as his dispatch, it enabled me to learn moral and financial responsibility towards his customers and to ourselves.

Having a home office allowed me to be an avid volunteer within the public schools, where I served for eight years with the District Parent Advisory Council. I was Chair from Oct. 2004 till April 2008. As the DPAC Chair I was a member of many special focus committees with the Ministry Of Education and in 2006 was hired by the Ministry of Education to participate in a District Review in Haida Gwaii. Ever since I was a member of the Student Council in high School, I have been interested in Politics and have participated in some way.

My reason for seeking a Councilor's seat, is because during my years involved with the BC Confederation of Parent Advisory Councils I was trained how to advocate on behalf of others and I love the City of Terrace and am concerned about the people and the financial well being of our city, especially because of these past few years of recession. Experience has shown that rather than a hasty and rash decision, the prudent approach is to take time to view the "Bigger Picture", especially where financial well being is concerned.

My "Platform" would be to aim for fiscal responsibility with the taxpayers' money while on City Council. The City of Terrace needs to be attractive to new business and to keep our existing businesses and homeowners prospering, and raising our property taxes will not be alluring to outside interests and only provides more hardship during these hard economic times.
