NEWS RELEASE · 31st October 2011
Terrace RCMP
Terrace RCMP are investigating an arson attempt at the Best Western Inn that occurred at approximately 2 AM this morning.

“ Terrace Forensic Identification Unit and the Terrace Fire Department are on scene investigating. It is very fortunate that this fire did not get going.”, says Terrace RCMP media relations officer Cst. Angela Rabut.

At approximately 2 AM a Best Western employee saw faint smoke lingering near the ceiling and smelt something like an electrical fire. He called the Terrace Fire Department and their maintenance man. Both attended. A fire was not found. A motor was squeaking and it was assumed that this caused the smoke and smell.

This morning a Best Western employee discovered a broken window and a burnt chair in a different part of the building. A rock had been thrown thru the front window facing Kalum St. A second object thrown thru the window appears to have started the fire. Terrace Fire Department and the Terrace RCMP were notified at approximately 8 this morning of this new information. Both attended and are on scene investigating the matter.

If you have information about this crime contact the Terrace RCMP at (250)638-7400 or anonymously through Crime Stoppers by telephone at 1-800-222-TIPS. Or a Tip can be left anonymously online at www.bccrimestoppers.com.
Fire ladders can only reach so high...
Comment by Maggie Jo on 31st October 2011
I hear that Fire Dept Trucks have ladders that can only reach up to the 4th - maybe 6th floor.

Eeks. I have to keep that note in mind during my next stay in a hotel.
