REPORTING · 19th November 2011
According to Elections Official Cathy Jackson, the turnout is at least as good as it was last year. She was optimistic of a better turnout but didn't want to make any predictions.
At times the line up for voting at the Terrace Arena was down the hall to the stairs. It has been steady and it appears as if the cold air didn't discourage residents from coming out.
The voting ends at 8:00 pm and then the counting begins. In Terrace it is all done manually. In Kelowna this year the City has employed electronic voting machines where the voter fills in circles much like a lottery ticket and the ballot is fed into a machine. If the circles are not filled in properly, or the voter goes too much outside of the circle the ballot is rejected and the voter needs to repeat the process.
This electronic system might provide a quicker result in Kelowna, as 40 candidates are vying for 8 seats, but Terrace will be patient and wait for those committed to engage in the process to finish their manual count.
We will post the results here as they come in.
