School District 52
Representatives of the Dare to Dream Foundation, concerned parents and the Coast Mountains School District met in Terrace today to discuss the future of the Elementary Band Program.
There was agreement from everyone present that the Terrace community has a unique and rich culture of outstanding school and community band programs reaching back many years and that it is a legacy to be proud of, and to maintain in the future.
Everyone present, including School Board Chair Barry Pankhurst and Dare to Dream Foundation spokesperson George Clark, committed to continue to work together to seek solutions in the changed landscape of Middle Schools commencing next September 2012, at which time Grade 7 students will leave Elementary Schools.
School District Secretary Treasurer Alanna Cameron made it clear at the meeting that 2012-2013 Budget Planning has just begun in the district, that the current Board of Education has not made a decision to cancel Elementary Band, and that the newly elected Board will be considering the viability of all district programs as part of their ongoing budget planning process.
