Today, February 27, Terrace teachers will participate in a province-wide day of action, with union meetings slated for every school at lunch hour and a demonstration at the Sande Overpass after school.
There will be no disruption of class time on the day of action.
Rather, teachers will be using their off hours to discuss the current situation together, provide advice to their union, and protest the stalled negotiations and government threats to legislate contract strips and wage freezes.
“We have been working for over six months without a collective agreement,” states Karen Andrews, president of the Terrace District Teachers’ Union. “The government needs to know that teachers deserve to be treated with respect”.
