On Wednesday, March 7th, Terrace teachers will participate in a demonstration at the School District Board Office between 4 and 5pm.
“The government has introduced legislation that will worsen the already difficult learning conditions for our students,” says Karen Andrews, president of the Terrace District Teachers’ Union. Andrews explains that existing limits will be replaced and class sizes will increase, particularly in kindergarten through grade 7, with the implementation of Bill 22. Services to children with special needs will be cut back even further.
Teachers are taking a stand in hope that the government will halt the past decade of damage to public education, and reconsider their plans. The imposing of legislation will only serve to make a struggling public education system weaker.
