Terrace District Teachers'
The teachers in Terrace were very disappointed to learn that the Coast Mountains School District has cancelled the early dismissal days scheduled for next week. In a letter to the School District, the Terrace District Teachers’ Union urges the Superintendent and the Board of Trustees to reverse its decision.
“It is very unfortunate that the School District made this unilateral decision," said Karen Andrews, president of the TDTU.
“Teachers have been planning for and looking forward to this opportunity to meet with parents,” Andrews said. “Teachers find that having these personal conversations with their students’ parents is more meaningful than a formal written report card.”
Andrews reports that, since the beginning of the school year, parent feedback indicates that they are receiving more meaningful, richer communication about their child’s education than prior to the teachers’ job action.
"We feel that parents deserve this opportunity to meet with their children’s teachers prior to spring break, and we urge the board to allow it to go ahead as planned," Andrews said.

I am disappointed that the early dismissal is cancelled and once again there was no parent consultation. It is a time that we can find out how our children are doing academically but also socially. Social growth is as much a part of school as the three R's.
